Polonia Centre Letter to the “Windsor Star” Editor

October 26, 2017

Dear Editor:

The Polish Community of Windsor celebrated two milestone events recently which I would like to share with our fellow Windsorites.

At the Annual Gala of Excellence on October 14th, Polonia Centre (Windsor) Inc. awarded a total of $169,800 in donations, sponsorships and scholarships bringing our donation total to $1,035,300.00.

For Canada’s 150th, we made an investment in Canada’s future leaders through education, awarding $33,000 in scholarships and $8000 in support of The University of Windsor Leddy Library and the Polish Language School.

To celebrate the 125th of the City of Windsor, we contributed $9000 towards the restoration of the Copernicus Astrolabium in Jackson Park, erected in 1954 by Polish Organizations, and $19,800 to Organizations and youth groups.

2017 is the 100th Anniversary of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, founded by faithful Polish immigrants. Thanks to the generosity of a Windsor resident, Mr. Walter Boug, who was neither Polish nor Catholic, they received six lots on the corner of Ellis Street and Langlois Avenue. It was the first Polish R.C. Church in the Diocese of London and today, is the third oldest Catholic Church in Windsor. Polonia Centre (Windsor) donated $100,000 towards this historic occasion.

On October 22nd, a Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated by the Most Reverend Ronald P. Fabbro, Bishop of Diocese of London. A Jubilee Banquet brought together 544 parishioners, former Pastors and Vicars and friends of our Polish and Catholic Communities.

Polonia Centre (Windsor) incorporated in 1978 as a Non-Profit Charitable Corporation. We are proud to be a part of a thriving Polish Community and to call the City of Windsor our home.

Yours truly,
